Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 5, 2026
1. Who we are
NetStartr (“we”, “us”) operates netstartr.com, a free internet speed-test tool. Questions about this policy can be sent to privacy@netstartr.com.
2. Data we collect
- Speed-test results (download, upload, ping, jitter, packet loss, stability score) — these are computed in your browser and stored only in your browser's
localStorageunless you choose to share them. - Technical data from your request: IP address, user-agent, approximate location derived from IP (country / region only), referring URL, and browser language.
- Analytics: aggregated, anonymised page-view data via Google Analytics 4 (only when you have given analytics consent).
- No accounts. We do not ask you to register. We do not run trackers that try to identify you across other sites.
3. Cookies & similar technologies
We load Google Analytics and Google AdSense. Both can set cookies in your browser. We load both with Google Consent Mode v2 defaulting to denied for advertising and analytics storage until you choose otherwise on the cookie banner.
- Essential cookies (always allowed): security, session, your dark-mode and consent preferences.
- Analytics cookies (opt-in): Google Analytics measurement.
- Advertising cookies (opt-in): Google AdSense and its certified partners may use cookies and identifiers to serve and measure ads.
You can change or revoke your choice any time using the “Cookie settings” link in the footer of every page.
4. Advertising partners
We monetise through Google AdSense. Google and its certified third-party vendors may use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalised advertising at:
- Google Ads Settings (Google's personalisation controls)
- aboutads.info/choices (Digital Advertising Alliance, US)
- youronlinechoices.eu (EDAA, EU/EEA/UK)
- optout.networkadvertising.org (Network Advertising Initiative)
For users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, we serve non-personalised ads only until you grant consent through the cookie banner. Personalised ads require your explicit opt-in.
5. Affiliate links
Some outbound links on the post-test recommendations are affiliate links. If you follow one and make a purchase, NetStartr may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Affiliate placements are explicitly labelled “Sponsored”.
6. Legal basis & your rights (GDPR / UK GDPR)
We rely on your consent for analytics and advertising cookies, and on legitimate interest for security and request logging. You have the right to: access, rectify, erase, restrict, port, or object to processing of your personal data, and to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority. Email privacy@netstartr.com to exercise these rights.
7. California residents (CPRA)
California residents have the right to know what categories of personal information are collected, to delete it, to opt out of “sharing” for cross-context behavioural advertising, and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. To opt out of sharing for behavioural ads, use the cookie banner's “Reject all” option.
8. Data retention
Speed-test results stay in your browser's localStorage until you clear them. Server access logs are retained for up to 14 days for security and abuse prevention. Analytics data is aggregated and retained per Google Analytics' default retention window.
9. Children
NetStartr is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
10. Changes to this policy
We'll post any changes here and update the “Last updated” date. For material changes we may surface a notice through the cookie banner.
